There was a very good turnout and we all had a great time. It was really nice to meet new faces at this event and we hope to see more of you in future events.
The Kids Raya costume contest was a huge success, with 16 kids participating. 1st place went to Alex (Kamila Ginder's son), 2nd place was Zayne (Maznah's son) and 3rd place was Sofea (Atfan Noor's daughter). Congratulations to them! Thank you Pn Suzaina for organizing the contest and Pn Norain (wife of EMC Driector), Dr Roslan (EMC Director) and Ikram (MAI President) for being in the panel of judges. Unfortunately nobody was interested to participate in the Kueh Tradisional contest. Maybe all the kueh was gone before they reached Clarkson Park :). Hopefully next year we'll have more participants to keep the contest alive. The silat team led by Sam Shamsuddin was awesome and they really captivated the audience with some dangerous moves. Thanks to USGF for their performances, especially to Ms Jessica the Silat Princess, who made silat more interesting to watch :) Good job Sam, Jen Para and Dave. Kudos to Pn Rozita Rosli from Education Malaysia Chicago for successfully organizing the Merdeka flag-raising ceremony and patriotic song/poetry recital. That was probably the first time for most of us to sing our national anthem Negaraku after so many years away from our country. Glad to see most of us still remember the lyrics. The Merdeka spirit is still strong among us especially if we live in foreign land. We really appreciate the non-Malaysians' participation as well. And as always, the food was excellent and enough for all of us (even to take home too/tapau). Thank you to all the chefs! A special thank you to Dr Roslan (director of Education Malaysia Chicago) for lending us the Fender sound system and other equipments to be used in this event. MAI would also like to thank the performers: Nasser Mahmud (aka NasCoda), Rafee Hashim, Fuad Ariffin (also the event MC), Suzaina Khalid andMona Riduan for keeping us entertained during the event. Last but not least, thank you to all committee members and volunteers to made this event a successful one. Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri and Selamat Hari Merdeka! . |
