May the new year brings us happiness and good health. Editorial![]() 'Twas the night before Christmas... err actually it was three weeks before Christmas, Saturday December 4th. Chicagoland had transformed into a winter wonderland overnight. We had to drive through snowy roads to get to the MAI event on time. Yes, the MAI holiday open house was blessed with a white snowy backdrop. It was so pretty out there. The only thing we didn't have is chestnuts to roast in an open fire. However, due to snowy road conditions, not many Malaysians were able to attend the event although we were expecting more than 100 guests who have RSVP'd. About 70 guests attended, mostly Malaysian families. We also had guests from Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore.
Now comes the food, brought by some of the guests to share. We had Chicken Biryani (sponsored by MIDA - special thanks to Rita, MIDA Director), Pulut Kuning and Beef Curry, Nasi Himpit and Kuah Kacang, Roast Chickens and mash potatoes, Nasi Goreng, MeeHoon, Samosas, Christmas cookies, cake and other desserts. The highlight of the event was the Silent Auction, organized by Thanisha and Sly. There were six gift baskets to be auctioned and we had good participation from the guests. Our special thanks goes to the sponsors: Asian Noodle House, Penang Restaurant and Walmart of Crystal Lake. The winning bidders were Jamilah Huyer, Nick Nava, Pat Amponin, Liz Thomas and Fuad Ariffin. We had karaoke sessions and story-telling session on childhood holiday experience shared among the guests. Finally the guests were entertained by our very own talented professional violinist Ms Bernice Ooi, who performed three classical songs. Bernice is currently a member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra. A special thank you goes to her. It was a successful event and we hope everybody enjoyed the food, the entertainment and the chance to meet and greet their friends.
